Good afternoon, team. I want to cut right to the chase because I respect you and your time that you are spending away from your work. I am so proud of this team for the great work that is being done in these walls and it devastates me to share that we have lost a large contract due to government spending cuts. Our mission here at Fedcap is to create opportunities for people with barriers to move toward economic independence as valued and contributing members of society. Unfortunately, we cannot do this without funding, as is the nature of the work that we do. We have been through this in the past and I know that we will go through it again, it is the nature of social services. I have woken up to news just like this more times than I care to remember and I am sorry to be the person delivering the news today.
Things are uncertain; leadership is going to do everything in our power to avoid layoffs and cutting expenses but there will be changes and nothing is guaranteed right now. I have not had the chance to walk through the possibilities or make a plan, which is how I would prefer to be standing in front of you, but I am here because news will break soon and I do not want you to hear anything that you have not first heard from me. You are all far too valuable to Fedcap to have to endure that insult.
More communication will occur as soon as we have it and will come in the form of emails and smaller team meetings so that you will all have an opportunity to be involved and informed through the whole process.
Thank you for your time, your hard work and your patience during this difficult time; I am confident that we will endure this together and get another day to work towards the power of possible together.

I will deliver this message in an informal way, in the “trenches” of where the staff is located without a microphone or visuals – more of a conversation and a rally cry to work together and keep morale up until more information is known. I will not solicit feedback at this point as too much is unknown and I do not want to make promises that I cannot keep or create a false sense of hope or unnecessary dread.
