Share how you will deliver this message and why you chose this method: I wanted to deliver a message of hope and that communication will be key. Brutal honesty, providing some ownership of their destiny and “being in the loop of important decisions.” Winston Churchill—The Lion That Roared For His People---
Keep forging ahead, you are not going to please everyone, but you don’t have to. You do what is in the best interest of the company. Unfortunately restructuring is a part of business.
As the group gathers, we as Directors/managers set the tone as to how the staff are going to react to the stress and or challenge. Behavior and attitude are critical to a successful transition. The staff will be anxious as it is a mandatory meeting that has just been called.
Good Afternoon everyone,
As many of you know, we lost the government contract to clean the White House, the Capital and several other monuments due to government spending cuts. First, I want to let everyone know that performance has been exemplary. We want to continue our current contracts with the same vigor and enthusiasm that all of you bring each and every day.
Unfortunately we will be experiencing some change and possible cutbacks. The need to realign some job descriptions will need to take place to avoid layoffs but some layoffs may be inevitable. We will continue to communicate on a daily basis where we are in the process. We may even communicate more often as the need arises.
In the next few days we will be communicating clear and comprehensive reasons for the change as we get more information. We will guide you through the process that will be used for making decisions about staffing, reorganization and layoffs, facts about the schedule and dates for implementation and how it will be done.
Each person will be going through different stages and reactions to the change process and at their own pace. Some employees may be especially vulnerable to the situation that is occurring. EAP can provide free and confidential help for those who need it.
We will be asking for staff inclusion in the decision making and planning, creative ideas and a commitment to new ways of doing things. Respect and helpful guidance towards each other is key to the challenges that lay ahead.
I would like to meet with everyone again tomorrow at 3pm. We will hold a questions and answers session at that time. We understand that you are affected by budget cuts an uncertainty. We all need to be especially kind and patient with one another.
Thank you all.
